Grand Traverse County employees will not be singing – I’m getting nuttin’ for Christmas – this year, because they’re all getting 3 percent raises thanks to the outgoing county commissioners. I share this opinion that government employees tend to be very highly compensated compared to their private-sector counterparts. The dissenter in the vote for pay raises, Dr. Sweaters-Around-The-Neck, said they should even think about raises while the county is only doing the bare minimum on the pension. That’s a reasonable thought, but he was also voted out of office so maybe people aren’t interested in reasonable. There’s big turnover on the county board this year. Could get interesting.
