Marian Lewis stands accused of stealing at least $1,000 from the Charlevoix Sports Boosters non-profit. Maybe not the most sophisticated accused criminal ever, Lewis stands accused of writing a check to herself from the account. Lewis only became treasurer for the organization in June. The Charlevoix Sports Boosters provide financial and other support for sports programs within the Charlevoix schools.
Lewis entered a plea of not guilty. She’s not due back in court until November. That’s kind of late for a felony, which typically requires a preliminary exam to be held within 10 days of the arraignment. However, defendants often waive the right in order to investigate the case or negotiate a plea deal.
