This Antrim County Sheriff’s deputy thought he could steal money from a suspect as he executed a search warrant. Michael Bingham allegedly was assigned the task of counting the money in a handbag that officers found during the search. Instead of counting it, he tried to take some instead. There are conflicting accounts as to how much Bingham took.
Bingham received six months in jail without the opportunity for work release. He pleaded guilty to attempted misconduct in office. More serious charges were dismissed, but Bingham still admitted to a felony.
As if Bingham wasn’t already a shining example of the boys in blue, he was subsequently charged with sex crimes.
