The Grand Traverse County Commission is working on making extra payments on their unfunded pension obligation. They’re hoping to bring the pension funds up to the state-mandated 60 percent funded requirement. Right now it’s about 56 percent.
Now it wouldn’t be any fun without some shade flying back and forth. Ken Crawford and Robert Hentschel have exchanged words on the Ticker’s website over the financing plan. It’s kind of hard to follow, but it seems like Crawford is suggesting that Hentschel’s plan is too aggressive because it pays more in than other counties do. However, IDK, just a thought, that until the pension is 100% funded, how exactly is it too aggressive?
