The case against Kinsley Principal Karl Hartman continues to move forward. The court granted the defense’s request to go to Kingsley Elementary School to look at the scene and take photos.
Hartman waived his right to a preliminary hearing in district court. A preliminary hearing requires the prosecutor to present evidence in order to ensure that there’s some basis for the charges. Unless there’s like a legal dispute about whether the facts meet the evidence, cases are almost always bound over. It’s definitely the politically safe thing to do for any district court judge. So the waiver may have been simply to avoid the public getting to hear all of the evidence, as told by the media, before the trial.
It does not appear that a trial date has been set. A scheduled date of late July appears to have been adjourned by agreement of the parties.
